The Business High School, "Constantin Diaconovici Loga" and "Carmen Silva" High Schools Close to the Cathedral, at the intersection of boulevards Victory s and Polytechnic, there is the "Capitol" movie theater, built by J. Steiner company, between 1929-1930, after the plans of the architect Duiliu Marcu, modernized in 1972 by the architect Serban Sturdza, housing today also the "Banat" Philharmonic. In the small park on the front of the theater, there is the bust of the great Romanian poet Mihai Eminescu. On the other side of the street, is rising majestically the edifice of the City Hall of the town of Timisoara; this building was for 20 years the residence of the Business High School. The foundation brick was laid in 1914, but given the hard financial conditions combined with the first World War, the building was done in 1925, and the exterior was finished four years later, in 1929. This is a product of the Romanian architectural style, having wide eaves and a tower on the roof, the ornaments abounding in motifs of the local art. The building was destined for the local administration from 1946. The history of this edifice takes us back in time, in the year 1838, when in Timisoara was inaugurated a one year private course, "Business Course" ("Curs Comercial), conducted by Franz Stiben, the teaching language being the German. In 1841, the course was prolonged at two years, having the name of "Professional Business school"; in 1844, the course became public, and Franz Wiessner introduced the French language for study, and prolonged it at three years. Wiessner opened, in lieu of the old course, an elementary business, introducing another discipline for study, the Hungarian language, the teaching language being still the German. 1895 is the year when the school received the rank of business high school, becoming public state school in 1899; its first principal was Johann Pfeiffer. In 1919, the Romanian Government took over the school; the school kept its local status until 1922; after this year its administration was taken over by the Department of Education. The Stiben and Wiessner schools did not have their own residence; at the beginning, the courses were taking place in private homes, from 1899, in elementary and middle schools from the City, then, in 1919, when the first story of the new building was ready, but had a provisory roof, moved here until the ending of the construction, in 1925. On the Victory s Boulevard (today C.D. Loga), at number 37, there is the building of "Constantin Diaconovici Loga" High School; the building, done between 1902-1903 after the plans of the architect Ignatz Alpar, meant to be a public high school, because at that time the Piaristic High School was extra crowded. The building is a successful representation of the Viennese baroc, having an exemplary symmetry and very well balanced proportions. It has three stories; the windows from the second story have the fronton border in baroc style; the third story windows end with an arch [33]. The administration of the town gave away the land and offered yearly scholarships to help poor students. Not far from this public formerly boys high school, mix today, was built between 1903-1904 a public high school for girls (at number 45 today), named then Carmen Silva (the literary pseudonym of queen Elisabeth) called today Eftimie Murgu after the great 1848 Romanian revolutionary from the Country of Almaj (Tara Almajului). This edifice received also the land from the administration of the town; its constructions plans were signed by the architects Leopold Baumhorn and Jakob Klelin; the construction was done by Karl Hart. The architectural multifunctional complex comprises two main buildings and a liaison wing. The complex has three stories; one of the main buildings is the school; the other one is the dorm; the style is English Neo Gothic. The main buildings have gates reminding Gothic cathedral entrances. The main building has a festivity room with big Gothic arched windows; it has, also, on the fronton, on top of the entrance niche, three small Gothic arched windows; it is ornated with Gothic motifs, lilies being in abundance. On the same boulevard, at number 43-45, there is the center for therapy. It has to be mentioned that besides traditional therapies, like, sonic, ionic and chemical message, the geo- thermal water is used to treat different ailments. The water is pumped, from a depth of 1200 meters, and a temperature of 52=B0C, into the pools, at 36=B0C; about 500 patients are benefiting daily the effects of this water. It is said this spring has the same chemical content and curative effect with the springs from other renown baths from Romania like Baile Herculane, Ocna Sibiului, Bazna and Govora.
