The Evangelist Church Our road takes us back again to the Doicesti Square, where, right across from the Dicasterial Palace, on the corner with Dr. Russel Square, a building can be remarked; in its walls, into a niche, an iron axis is fixed, 2,5 meters long, dating from the XVIII century, and serving as an emblem. Near the "Iron Axis" house, there is the Evangelist Church, building finished in 1839 and blessed on October 27, the same year. The parish house dates from 1832 and is next to the church, in its backyard being another building that was the confessional evangelist school; in 1825 the school had one elementary class for boys, and in 1869 added a class for girls, but was closed in 1869 because other schools were opened and the city cut its financing. Entering the backyard through the arch of the parish house gate, you might be filed by a romantic nostalgia. Going out of the backyard, you have a view that underlines the idea that the old lives with the new in this town. From one side, the Bastion a part left from the fortress of the XVIII century- is guarding, on the other side, the fountain of the Cardinal Points, as well as, the block of flats rising on the Take Ionescu Boulevard complete the scene. The left part of the fortifications, in a star shape, is known under the name of Bastion and is placed between the streets, Popa Sapca, Buftea and the Take Ionescu Boulevard; the main entrance is on the Popa Sapca Street, at number 4; the roof was raised in 1908; the last restoration was done between 1971-1972. The Bastion houses today, at the second floor, the Art and Ethnic section of the Museum of Banat; wood sculptures, costumes and head ornaments from both Romanian folklore and other nationalities living in Banat can be admired here. A fur shop, rural furniture from Romanian, German, Hungarian, and Serbian houses, can also be seen; other rooms contain glass icons, ceramics and other things. There are also several other rooms that house art shows, conferences, the county library, old books store, a bar, a patisserie, and a wine cellar.
